New Solar Panel Installation Helps Towards A Self-Sustaining Future

On Monday 11th August 2025 S Murray’s new solar panel installation went live. The project is the culmination of a series of building, roof and wider site developments over recent years, offering an exciting new chapter of energy sustainability for the company’s UK production site and head office in Woking, Surrey.

With over 340 bi-facial panels, the system is capable of generating more kWh per year than the company currently consumes in its glassworks and head office alone, already accounting for over 84% of the company’s electricity consumption in those areas since being commissioned.

Helped by some welcome sunshine during the last weeks of the Summer, to date the system has saved over 3,500kg of CO2 emissions, equivalent to planting over 200 trees.

Together with recent investments in a new, more energy-efficient heating system and air compressors for the company’s production sites, as well as an increased use and development of both bio-based and recycled production materials, this latest addition to the company’s sustainability portfolio has helped contribute to a reduction in both Scope 1 and Scope 2 emissions, as part of a wider, ongoing journey towards a net zero future.
